Bauer Technology for Massive Sulfite Mining

A new kind of Mining: the high requirements of the deep sea are also feasible for similar hydrothermally formed massive sulfite deposits, for which a new kind of mining technology has to be developed

With a kick-off meeting of all ten partners in Bauers headquarter in Schrobenhausen Deep Sea Sampling II went officially to sea on September, 23 2025. Headed by Dr. Matthias Semel, the project's coordinator, 30 team members met to discuss timeline, roadmap and deliverables.

Phase II is focossing on two aims: getting a better understanding of Seabed Massive Sulfites by intensified exploration, and the «ready-to-sea» phase of the equipment for the Vertical Approach, conceptually developed and tested in DSS I. The interdisciplinary team includes geoscientiest from both Constructor University as well as the BGR to ensure, that the entire approach will work with minimal impact and intense monitoring of the affected environment.

We say «Hello!» to our new partners: the BGR (Bundesanstalt für Geowissenschaften und Rohstoffe), the Constructor University Bremen, and the Blue Installation Group Bremen.
